Review of Bakers Life Bakehouse Gluten Free White Bread
Fair-priced gluten free toasting bread, although not ideal for sandwiches thanks to its texture.

It carries a 4-star Health Star Rating and contains 11.4g of fibre per 100g, making it a high-fibre option. Each 100g also provides 1070kJ of energy, 1.4g saturated fat, 4.0g sugars, and 380mg sodium.

The bread has no artificial colours or flavours, is a good calcium source, and is suitable for vegetarians.
What we thought
Aldi’s Bakehouse Gluten Free White Bread landed at the bottom of the list of tested white breads. It scored 3.2 out of 5, which is still a pass.
The packaging is super-frustrating to open and can’t be resealed. Admittedly, this is also a problem with the Coles and Woolworths homebrand loaves.
At first glance, it looks bright white and uniform, like the poster child for old-school gluten free bread. Taste-wise, it’s good, and the shape of the loaf doesn’t raise any red flags.
The texture is where things unravel. The crumb was dry, and even with a week left before it expired, the slices already tasted stale. Toasting brought the bread back to life, but if you’re after soft, fresh slices straight from the bag, Aldi Bakehouse doesn’t quite deliver.

Like the loaf of Wonder we recently reviewed, it’ll be interesting to re-test this bread in a few months to see if we just got unlucky.
