Review of Wonder Gluten Free Soft White

3.5/5

Nice texture and flavour, but overly dark crust, many holes, and unevenly cut slices let this loaf down.

What we thought

Wonder Gluten Free Soft White Bread came in a disappointing second to last in our review of GF white bread in the major supermarkets.

On the positive side, it offered a mild flavour and a decent texture that wasn’t as heavy or claggy as some of the competition. It had the potential to make good sandwiches or toast.

Where this loaf really fell short was in consistency. The crust appeared overbaked and very dark. Holes throughout the loaf meant cheese toastes were out of the question. Nothing irks a gluten free shopper more that paying a premium for GF, then getting a loaf that’s sub-par.

Holey GF Bread.
This wasn’t even the worst slice in the bag.

Slice thickness was also a problem. The width of each varied so much that some pieces were almost double the size of others – the thinnest were flimsy.

Consistency of slice thickness was a problem.

For now, Wonder Gluten Free lingers near the bottom of the rankings.

We’ll review all the supermarket GF bread in a few months to see how things have changed.
